About
I am a research-active film theorist and film historian focusing on the global industrial, aesthetic, social, cultural, and political dimensions of American cinema. My teaching and research pays close attention to industry practice, to film content and themes, to marketing and distribution, to audiences, and to discourses of reception, as well as to the relationships between these phenomena. Of major interest to me is the diverse interaction that has taken place at the levels of production and promotion across the last half century between the constituent sectors of the North American film industry . I am also particualrly interested in the ways in which film categories operate, especially with respect to blockbusters, youth-oriented cinema, and low-prestige pictures.
